How to Care For Your Hand Tied Extensions
Extension Care
Washing
Before washing, thoroughly brush your hair to remove any tangles. Use paraben-free shampoo and conditioners. Gently wash scalp, emulsifying shampoo roots and work through the ends, making sure you cleanse between all rows of wefted hair. Repeat as needed, rinse, and condition for 5 minutes. Avoid getting conditioner at the base of the hair extensions. A weekly conditioning treatment is recommended.
Drying + Styling
On damp hair, use leave-in conditioner and gently detangle from ends up to the roots, using a wide tooth comb or “wet brush”. Avoid brushing the base of the extensions at all times by placing your hand at the base of the scalp where the extensions attach to your natural hair. Apply a hydrating serum and a heat protectant before blowdrying. Rough dry excess moisture out, then begin to dry focusing on the roots first.Section the hair to ensure faster blow dry time. Brush hair morning and night. Secure hair in a low bun, pony tail or braid before sleeping.
Vacation Care
Wet hair before entering ocean, lakes or pools. Secure hair in a low ponytail, using several more bands spaced a few inches a part down the length of hair to keep hair from tangling in the water. I’ve found this secured ponytail to create much less tangling than a traditional braid. Use a clarifying shampoo and condition after swimming. Minerals found in these waters can react poorly with extended hair and lead to discoloration of your extensions. SUNSCREEN WARNING: Sunscreens containing Avobenzone and Octocrylene will turn your hair orange. Avoid this by checking ingredients and choosing mineral sunscreens instead!
